Goo Goo Dolls drummer is an Ultra Runner
Mike Malinin

Mike Malinin, drummer for the world famous Goo Goo Dolls, and his band mates have produced multiple hit songs and albums and have and have toured worldwide. Malinin's passion for endurance makes him an excellent drummer, but it also inspired him to become a very good runner, specializing in ultra distance trail races. Running has become a way of life, a part of him. It proves a way to relax as well as satisfying challenge.

Most importantly, Malinin emphasizes, "Running's fun for me." Malinin delved into endurance sports as a cross country runner in high school, then as a road cyclist while attending collage in Texas. Although he still cycles occasionally, trail running is now his focus, and he can often be found running on the extensive trail network near his home in California. Some of his recent accomplishments include the Angela's Crest 100 Miler in California and the JFK 50 Miler in Maryland. He recorded a personal best of 3:32 at the more mortal distance of the marathon.

At home, his schedule is fairly normal, and he can find time to train, including an occasional eight hour training day. Tour with the band, Malinin can live in hotels for up to 18 months, and maintaining a running schedule is a bit trickier. He sometimes runs late at night when the rest of the guys are out partying after the show.

Finding places to run isn't as difficult as finding the time. When he goes to a new city anywhere in the world,Malinin looks for a major river where he usually finds a running path or bike trail.

He plans to make running a lifetime pursuit has set a goal of running a three-hour marathon; something he may attempt this fall.

Mike Malinin,Jose Solano, and Ian Ziering are just a few of the many celebrities who share a passion for running and fitness. So next time you're at a race, take a look around- you may see someone you know!!
